HB Fuller/Valspar site – some discussion about use of trucking and they are very cautiously looking at this issue. There is a lot of discussion on the expansion of the Guardian Angels Park & Ride. Please see city update note from Craig Waldron for more details.
School Update – Marc Cove informed us today and tomorrow is MEA. There was some discussion about what teachers are doing on those days off and whether or not they actually attend the conferences – He thinks as many as 10% of the teacher attend this conference being offered. He also mentioned the AYP and that only a couple schools did not meet the AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress). The new philosophy is every child is everyone’s responsibility, not just a single teacher.
Co-Action Update– Herb Lohse said the Beer and Wine tasting event was a success with 175 people turning out. He encourages us (the business community) to continue to support this very important cause. He also mentioned CTE – Career and Tech Education courses and the importance of businesses to support also as we need to be sure the courses being offered match the required skill set required in the business world. Federal funding with Century College and the programs must be in line with these areas of study also.
Jack Burke was not in attendance; however, John Larson presented the 2008 Budget Proposal. There was much discussion on providing a renewing scholarship. Co-Action will put together a proposal to be voted on at a later time. He also gave a Treasurer Report. We reviewed the list of companies that have not paid the association dues as of yet. Calls will be made to those companies by either the board members who volunteered or Jack Burke’s staff. Tony Schwartz motioned to approve the budget and Ted Lillie seconded it.
Holiday Helping Hands – John Larson gave an update and sent around sign up sheets.
Golf Tournament – Tony Schwartz – updated us the 2007 Golf Tournament – the net proceeds were $8,121.46. He told us to mark our calendars for next year August 11th at 12:00 start time.
Website updates – please get updates to Ric Pace and if we have any changes or errors to the directory get those to Michele Willard.
In 60 seconds – Jack Buckley noted he has 3 spots taken for November, and since there is not a formal meeting for December there would not be any 60 second commercials available until January.
Guest Speaker – Frank Orsello announced Vern Atwater of Wells Fargo Bank – topic is Mortgage Fraud – "How could this happen?"
Gold Plate Dinner update - Ric Pace sent around the save the date cards. "Paint the Town Red" is the theme. He sent around a handout for sponsorship. Michele Willard will be the contact for ticket sales. The Auction and Raffle Donation Form was distributed and discussed. We need everyone’s help to increase ticket sales! Bring your wine to Ric sooner than later. Ticket costs $125 per person. There was an idea of paying the dues for the business that sells the most tickets.
Directory updates – Ted Lillie asked us to please look at our businesses and the events we participate in to be sure they are represented correctly in the directory. Please make changes by mid-December with hopes to complete the Directories by late January.
Finish the Wakota Bridge – Tony Schwartz presented a memo regarding the completion of the Wakota Bridge. The Board motioned to send a letter to the Governor regarding this issue. John Larson agreed to put together a letter and it be mailed on behalf of the OBPA. Tony gave us an update on OPBA not having a membership with the St Paul Chamber, but St Paul Chamber is a member of OBPA. He recommended we request a SWAP membership deal. They want more involvement from the OBPA in the St Paul Chamber. He requested we have one member report from the St Paul Chamber.
