City Update – Craig Waldron updated the board regarding city activities. The park and ride is expanding quickly as they are working with the department of transportation to help ease congestion due to the bridge collapse. Craig also spoke about our excellent credit rating and how that benefit gets passed on to the residents and business owners of Oakdale. He also mentioned the 1st Annual Community Health Fair is coming up and encouraged everyone to participate. Also, Dino’s will be coming to Oakdale. We had a question regarding the status of Lifetime Fitness. Craig mentioned it would be a full scale facility with an extensive waterpark. They are still working through water mitigation issues at the current time. Comments on the storm damage were all favorable for the City’s Public Works.
School Update – Marc Cove let us know there are only three weeks until session begins. Tartan experienced heavy storm damage but assured us the repairs will be done by the start of school. He also mentioned the Hwy 36 pedestrian bridge will be done in time for school as well.
OBPA Golf Tournament – Tony Schwartz reported they had 92 registered golfers and 88 that actually played. It was a great day for golf and the tournament went very well. He mentioned Oak Marsh did a wonderful job with registration, billing and collecting. All sponsorships went well without any negative feedback. Everyone took home a prize. He reported over $8,000 in profit. He personally thanked all the sponsors. The N. St. Paul business association approached him to consider merging our golf tournaments. We have decided not to do this, however we would welcome a non-revenue joint meeting such as a picnic.
Regional Conference - Ted Lillie reported he is still actively seeking the key note speaker for this event. He encouraged everyone to attend this in lieu of the Board meeting. This is a great way to network with other local business associations. Please visit the website to get more details on this event. Ted also commented on the Chamber shared services project. It will be interesting to see how this data will be used in comparing one school district against another. He also spoke a bit about the Chambers reaction to the tax increase and how it will have an effect of 15% per year over the next three years.
Secretary position is now filled by Amy Brown
The future OBPA Board President – John Larson made a few comments about his excitement to be our new leader in attracting and retaining businesses for OBPA.
The future OBPA Board VP – Rick Timm made a few comments about how he has been on the board since 1991 and he’s looking forward to stepping up to learn even more about how the board works.
Ted Lillie nominated both candidates for the new positions on the Board and Marc Cove seconded it. All agreed.
